Example of analysis

Using two types of commercially available carbon-supported platinum (Pt) catalysts, the catalysts were caused to degrade in a potential cycle test. The properties of the catalysts were determined, and the degraded conditions of the catalysts were evaluated.

・Potential cycle test conditions: 0.6V-0.9V (0.1V/sec), 2,000 cycles*

* Black particles represent Pt, and gray parts, carbon.

Results of observation with the transmission electron microscope indicate that after potential cycle test, the Pt particles of both Catalyst A and Catalyst B grew in size as a result of a number of particles having been bonded together.
