Observation of a Cross Section of an Organic EL Panel



An organic EL panel consists of a glass substrate, a transparent conductive film, organic layers (a hole transport layer, a luminous layer, an electron injection layer, etc.), a metal electrode, and so forth. These layers can be observed by using FIB-TEM (preparation of thin pieces by means of focused ion beam and observation with the transmission electron microscope).

Based on cross-sectional TEM observation, it can be known that the organic layer is composed of a number of layers. Also, a grain boundary of the metal electrode can be noticed.

With a defective device, etc., you can figure out at which process there is a problem by processing a cross section of such defective device locally by means of FIB.
