Quantitative Analysis of a Residual Amine Catalyst in Soft polyurethane Form by Capillary Electrophoresis(CE)

Soft polyurethane form is widely used for a seat and a interior trim material for a car. Amine compounds are often used as a catalyst for the production of this soft polyurethane form. However, a residual amine catalyst in a product sometimes cause a nasty smell and coloration of a product. Gas and Liquid Chromatography are very popular methods for analysis of such a residual amine catalyst though, those methods need longer time to find a best analytical condition and often show less repeatability.
ANAC can quickly analyze a residual amine catalyst by Capillary Electrophoresis(CE) with good repeatability through our tremendous amount of experiences in this field.

Determination of Amines in Soft polyurethane form A and B

Standard solution (each 50μg/mL)

-Standard Samples-
A: Bis(2-Dimethylaminoethyl)Ether
B: Triethylene diamine [DABCOTM]
C: 4-[2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl]morpholine

※The correlation coefficients of the liner calibration for these amines are 0.99 in the range of 10 ~150μg/mL.

Sample solutions (pretreated)

Clear peaks of amines were detected without any interferences from other admixtures in two samples.
The relative standard deviations of repeatability of peaks were less than 10%.
