Summary

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) are widely used in industrial fields as a surface modifier. In 2008, PFOS regulation was enforced in EU, then a product which contains higher amount of PFOS and PFOA than the set amount in the regulation is seriously monitored and is banned from accessing EU market. It is important to analyze their contents in your product like RoHS instructions.

Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry ( LC-MS/MS )

*Selective reaction monitoring ; SRM method
SRM can get better S/N ratio due to less interaction of impurities in this method.

-Quantitative analysis of PFOA・PFOS in a cap of a screw cap bottle-

A piece of sample was soaked in a solvent and PFOA and PFOA were extracted from a sample piece by ultrasonic waves and quantitatively analyzed by LC-MS/MS.
